Chopper Harris - Chelsea Legend

Ron 'Chopper' Harris is a Chelsea FC legend. Having played 795 games for Chelsea he holds the record for the club's top number of appearances. Ron has been at the Duke for 6 'Chopper Nights' to date.

The last Ron ‘Chopper’ Harris evening at the Duke was on Monday 27th February 2012.  Our favourite comedian, MC Micky Pugh, introduced Chopper together with other Chelsea legend, ex-manager - Tommy Docherty! Chopper & the doc shared much of their catalogue of experiences, and Micky warmed everyone up with a hilarious joke routine! It was an excellent evening to remember, and at just £20 a head, which covered entry and the ever popular full hot buffet, everyone enjoyed a fantastic evening for fantastic value.

The previous Ron ‘Chopper’ Harris evening at the Duke was on Monday 19th September 2011.  Our favourite comedian, MC Micky Pugh, introduced the "3 H's". Yes, three Chelsea legends were all at the Duke - Ron Harris, John Hollins and Marvin Hinton. It was a wonderful evening, and with the charge of just £10 to cover entry and the ever popular full hot buffet, everyone had a fantastic evening for fantastic value. More info on the evening here. The 19th September was the 5th time Chopper has hosted an evening at the Duke. All six Chopper Nights at the Duke have been sell outs, with everyone having a great time on each occasion - with many taking home signed memorabilia and lots of memories & photos.

Prior to the September evening, the previous Chopper evening in April 2011 was a celebratory evening - 40 years since the famous European Cup Winners' Cup win of 1971. Chopper attended with Peter 'the cat' Bonetti and John Dempsey, all veterans of that wonderful ECWC winning team.

And prior to that, Chopper has previously attended with, MC Micky Pugh, who warms everyone up and gets everyone in joyful spirits whilst Ron does the ‘hellos’.  Ron then takes the stage and tells many stories of when he was playing, with George Best & Jimmy Greaves getting a few mentions.  A wonderful evening each time. MC Micky hosted the 19th September 2011 and 27th February 2012 evenings as well. Read more on those evenings above.

Ron has also hosted an evening together with Bobby Tambling, Chelsea’s top goal scorer.  Bobby was welcomed by everyone and congratulated on his memorable Chelsea career and goals as he circled round the Duke signing books & photos.

The previous time to Charlie's visit Ron came with Charlie Cooke, the Chelsea left winger who terrorised defences in the late 60s and 70s.  Charlie also had some wonderful stories of his days in a blue shirt that he shared with us all.

Memorabilia is auctioned off and raffled on Chopper Nights @ the Duke Chopper Harris & Nick

We always look forward to Ron coming to the Duke together with other former Chelsea legends and enjoy all their stories from their playing days.
